First little draft for my Fanfiction

Rules of the Death Note

The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

This note will not take effect unless the writer has the persons face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person’s name, it will happen.

If the cause of death is not specified the person will simply die of a heart attack.

“4 more people have been found dead this morning in Tokyo bringing the death toll to 24 this week so far. Police are withholding any information but fingers are being pointed at ‘Kira’ for their deaths.”

A sly smile crept upon Light Yagami’s face as he listened to the evening news. “I suppose I have you to thank again”. Light looked down to his new found power: the Death Note.

Since acquiring the Death Note, Light took justice into his own hands by taking care of Tokyo’s criminals himself. Proud of his work, he congratulated himself as this week was the largest number of criminals he had ever killed. His grin soon faded because in the back of his mind something was bothering him. He only took the lives of 17 this week.

  2. I like your opening with the rules, definitely makes for an eerie read. I'd like to suggest thinking about taking out the first line, so it opens with:

The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

which would be a powerful start and allow the reader to develop their own ideas about that first paragraph a bit more. Just an idea =) great start though, looking forward to the next part.

  3. cheers for the advice. the rules of the death note i wasnt actually gonna put in the story but just there with my intro about my fan fic because the rules will take up too much time intertwining them all into the story. if it were a story just about the death note i wouldve definately started with that line you suggested. very deep indeed.
