Carlos' Fanfiction - Final Edit

Hi guys here is my final version of my fan fiction.

Thank you for your comments on my drafts. Please give me feedback on this as I'd like to know what you think.

By the way 'Kira' is the Japanese pronounciation of the English word: Killer.

I've posted the rules of the Death Note as a brief just to give you a better understanding of Light's power.

Enjoy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules of the Death Note

The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

This note will not take effect unless the writer has the persons face in their mind when writing his/her name.

Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person’s name, it will happen.

If the cause of death is not specified the person will simply die of a heart attack.

After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

One page taken from the Death Note, or even a fragment of the page, contains the full effects of the note.

Kira vs. Jigsaw

****************************************************************************************************

“4 more people have been found dead this morning in Tokyo bringing the death toll to 24 this week so far. Police are withholding any information but fingers are being pointed at ‘Kira’ for their deaths.”

A sly smile crept upon Light Yagami’s face as he listened to the evening news. “I suppose I have you to thank again”. Light looked down to his new found power: the Death Note. Since acquiring the Death Note, Light took justice into his own hands by taking care of Tokyo’s criminals himself earning him the name ‘Kira’ to the public. Proud of his work, he congratulated himself as this week was the largest number of criminals he had ever killed, though in the back of his mind something was bothering him. He only killed 17 this week.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Wake up...Kira.”

Light’s eyes slowly began to uncover an unfamiliar blurred environment as he awoke. Struggling to come round, he eventually found what he figured to be someone’s room though it was impossible for someone to want to live in it he thought. What was left of the torn and faded wallpaper barely concealed the walls of rotten wood and greenery seeping through the cracks. The ceiling immersed in mould and the carpet barely existent it soon became evident that no one had occupied this room for quite a while.

It seemed like minutes before he began to process what was going on. Realizing he was unable to move he looked down to find his arms and legs strapped to what seemed like an old barber’s chair firmly attached to the floor restricting him in his place. A small black ink pen was attached to his hand, for what purpose though was unknown to him. Cameras were placed in each corner of the ceiling, recording his every move. A crackling noise filled the room and a voice spoke once again.

“Welcome to my world Kira. Now that you’re finally here I’d like to play a game.”

Light’s chair slowly turned around and a dark wooden desk came into view. Laid out over the desk was a small blank page that looked to have been torn out of a book. A small monitor sitting on the corner of the desk turned on and a small doll-like face with a demonic look appeared on the screen. The doll continued to speak.

“I’m sure you’re familiar with this piece of paper; you write on them every day. Your little notebook is definitely a powerful thing. Using it, you mercilessly kill those who oppose your dream of a utopian world. Rapists, robbers, fraudsters and even our own kind: murderers. Yes. You and I are both murderers Kira but we kill for the right reasons no? But there is one problem.” The voice, arrogant and demeaning, irritated Light. “When we reach the Promised Land there can only be one lead-“

“You mean God.”

“Oh?”

“In my world, I will be God. The people will thank me from saving them from the evil in our society. They will praise me and I will be loved. An amateur like you could never achieve that.” A sense of determination bled from the eyes of Light as he talked down the foolish doll.

“Well I sincerely apologise but it seems I have rewritten your fate. For today, you will be leaving us. In your right hand is a pen to enable you to write on the page in front of you. I obtained this from your Death Note the day we captured you. If you’d care to look above you’ll see a slab of stone held up by chains. When the timer over on the wall reaches 0 the stone will fall, crushing you completely. You have 2 minutes to decide your death. What will it be? Write your name down and take your own life or sit there helplessly, waiting to be squashed to nothing. Choose wisely, Light Yagami.

The most immense fear would have overwhelmed any normal human being. To have the day of your death chosen; 2 minutes to decide how it would end. Jigsaw watched his subject from his monitoring room, awaiting the joy that would come at the hands of his own work. His smirk was soon banished with what he saw next. Head laid back, eyes closed, Light Yagami took in a single deep breath. Opening his eyes he faced the camera pointing at his face from the left corner of the room and smiled down the lens to Jigsaw.

“What seems to be the problem Light?” Beaming with confidence, Jigsaw patronised his victim. “Is it that the God of his own world has finally realised he isn’t the superior candidate to lead it? It appears you’ve gone insane with that childish smirk on your face.”

Closing his eyes once more, Light released a sigh of pride. “I don’t suppose you’ve heard the quote: ‘If the loser keeps his smile, the winner will lose the thrill of his victory’. I think this would be more fitting if that were indeed the case. I must say, I’ve really outdone myself this time. I guess I have you to thank for making my brilliant plan come to life.”

“What?”

Light could feel the confidence Jigsaw once held pour from the camera lens into his hands. He was about to show this Jigsaw a real killer.

“I hope you had the time to read the rules of the Death Note. As you know, I can kill anyone I know the name and face of just by writing it down. I can also write how that person will die as long as I write it in the next 40 seconds after writing their name but it’s another rule that really sells it for me. ‘After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds’. Through experimentation I found I could control what my victim does before their death. Why should this concern you though?”

Suddenly, all the fear Jigsaw had endeavored to make his victims feel for the past 3 years had turned on him. He tried desperately to shun any thoughts of danger to himself before he spoke to Light.

“You’re empty threats are worthless Light. You can’t even bruise me without knowing my real na-“

“I wouldn’t be so sure Jonathan Kramer.”

Frozen in his seat, every hair on his body standing up, Jigsaw’s heart skipped a beat as he sat in horror.

“You severely underestimated me Jonathan. You see, my father is part of the police force and luckily for me he was heading the case on the infamous ‘Jigsaw’ killer, the person responsible for poaching my victims. For a young college genius, it’s not a problem hacking into my father’s police investigation reports. Don’t worry I have no desire to write your name on this piece of paper in front of me now as I already did a few days ago. It’s just a matter of WHEN you will die now.”

Jigsaw couldn’t believe a single word he was hearing. He was speechless as he watched that stupid grin still displayed on Light’s face. How could he have been outwitted by him, a 17 year old college student; more importantly, when was he going to die?

“Have you failed to notice why I’m not dead yet? I believe you said I had TWO minutes right? It’s probably because you didn’t start the actual timer. See, this whole plan you thought you carefully crafted was actually mine all along. Everything you’ve done. From capturing me to putting me in this chair, I wrote it all in the Death Note. You didn’t start the countdown because I wrote that you wouldn’t. These knots around my arms and legs aren’t even properly done.”

With ease Light stood from his chair and walked closer towards the camera. Jigsaw was on the edge of insanity. How could this all be happening? Then without any notice his right hand started moving beyond his control. Everything Light had said was the truth. Light was in control. Desperate attempts to stop his body were futile as his index finger pressed down the timer button.

“I think it’s about time you came down here John.”

A door behind the desk opened slowly as a pale, terrified looking aged man walked through into the dingy room. Jigsaw having given up on the struggle to control his body, allowed himself to be guided to the room. As Light stared from the corner of the room, Jigsaw’s body slowly headed towards the chair previously inhabited by Light. He was going to be placed in his own trap. This was his death. Sitting down, Jigsaw looked to the timer to see there was 40 seconds left.

“So this is how it ends.” Taking a deep breath, Jigsaw looked up to Light. This was his executioner. This…boy.

“That’s right.” The tone in Light’s voice had changed. He spoke with determination. Victory was closer.

“I guess it was never my world to own.”

“I told you I would be a God. An amateur like you was never destined to take that responsibility. Now sleep old man.”

The chains holding the stone buckled. Jonathan Kramer closed his eyes and for the last time in his life he smiled.

“God huh?”

  1. This was really well put together, I'm impressed. I actually never saw that coming, great twist. Never really wanted Jigsaw to win this either, good work.

  2. Yes, very well put together.

I was wondering how you were going to tackle this 'conflict of interest' - Light and Jigsaw seem to have.

I liked how you subtly tied in the quote from Light “If the loser keeps his smile, the winner will lose the thrill of his victory’ with Jigsaw’s reaction at the end.
